EFT TRAINING– Understanding the levels
Gary Craig, the founder of EFT, originally devised three training levels for EFT. Now he has launched his own qualification at three levels based on DVD study and examination. However, his programme tests knowledge of EFT, not ability to deliver it in a therapy setting, and the syllabus for training by workshop has been taken over in the UK by the Association for the Advancement for Meridian Energy Therapy (AAMET). AAMET is the lead body for regulation and standards in the UK and practitioner certification training with an AAMET trainer is an essential prerequisite if you want a free listing on the AAMET website. The seals below denote courses that follow the AAMET syllabus or go beyond it. EFTers who do Gary Craig’s DVD course will still need to attend a workshop to convert the knowledge qualification they gain from it to approved practitioner certification.

Level 1 – Discovering EFT.
This is the course for people new to EFT or who have learned EFT through downloading the manual and watching the DVDs and now want to experience working with other people in a group and having the opportunity to watch live demonstrations and to have their questions answered. It is both for people who want to learn EFT to use it for themselves and with family and friends and for those who intend to continue with their training to practitioner level. No previous experience either of therapy or of EFT is required to attend a Level 1 training.
On an approved Level 1 course, expect to learn where EFT comes from, the long and short forms of tapping points, what psychological reversal is, about aspects, testing and calibrating, how you know what words to use, what to do when EFT is not working, handling excessive intensity, how to detach the emotions from specific negative memories with the movie technique, working with physical pains, and with cravings.

Level 2 – Working with EFT.
People who have done a Level 1 workshop (or in exceptional circumstances been given an exemption because of their experience and knowledge of EFT) are eligible to do a Level 2 workshop. On it you will learn how we acquire and are run by our inner beliefs, how to deal with the tailenders that reflect our often unrecognized inner beliefs and that sabotage affirmations and change, additional tapping points, how to work more gently, the detective work that helps us to get to core issues, how emotional causes have physical consequences, how to work with pain and physical discomfort at a more sophisticated level, emotional drivers of physical problems and addictive behaviours, more ways to test, working on the telephone, working with groups.

Level 3 – Refining the art of delivery of EFT.
This covers everything you need to know and have not already covered on levels 1 and 2 to bring your work to a more sophisticated and accomplished level. You will learn more about working with intuition, about pre-framing and reframing, about working with more difficult clients and problems. A large supervisory element will be involved in Level 3 courses.

Additional standards.
As well as meeting the Gary Craig syllabus requirement above, the leading UK trainers also voluntarily impose further conditions on their trainees. Mine are as follows:
People who do Level 2 training with me receive an attendance certificate at the end of the second day. This becomes a Practitioner Certificate only after the submission of two case studies illustrating a satisfactory level of competence in working with EFT.
In line with all other AAMET trainers Level 3 training entitles practitioners to call themselves Level 3 for one year only. Anyone who wishes to and has done Level 2 training can attend for the learning they will gain. But to continue to call themselves a Level 3 practitioner they must obtain 10 continuing professional development points in the following 12 months and a further 5 a year thereafter. Points can be earned by, for example, attending the EFT International Masterclass in October will earn six points , a one-day group supervision four . Documented study, writing up a case study, having an article published on Gary Craig’s website www.emofree.com are other ways to earn points.
